Founder’s Day – Thursday 22nd February 2018
The Scouting movement celebrates the Founder’s Birthday on 22nd February each year. To show their pride of being either a Beaver, Cub or Scout (Scouting) or Rainbow, Brownie or Guide (Girlguiding), pupils were allowed to wear their uniform to school on 22nd February.
E-Safety Assemblies – Tuesday 6th February 2018
On Tuesday 6th February, Pauline Steward from the Durham ITSS team visited the school to discuss current E-Safety issues with parents. The children from Y1/2 and Y3/4 presented assemblies explaining how parents can keep them safe.
Choir Competition at Durham Cathedral – Monday 5th February 2018
The Music Club performed the song The Rose at Durham Cathedral on Monday 5th February. They sounded fabulous! Well done to all of the Choir.
Music Service Choir Competition – Thursday 7th December 2017
Framwellgate Moor Primary School Choir entered the Music Service Choir Competition again this year. The choir were shortlisted and invited to sing in the Final at Ushaw College on Thursday 7th December.
Mrs Curry leads the school choir and practised a new song called ‘Snowproblem!’ The children performed brilliantly and they WON! I am very proud of the Choir and am delighted that they were recognised for working so well together.
The Choir has now been invited to perform at the Sage in Newcastle and Durham Cathedral next term.

Harvest Festival – Monday 2nd October 2017
Harvest Festival was held in school for the children on Monday. All donations of tins and packets have been donated to Durham Food Bank.
We now have a Golden Table which different children sit at every Friday dinner time to reward them for good behaviour. Here are some photos of children enjoying having their dinner at the Golden Table with Mrs Smith.
Nursery Sports Day – Wednesday 21st June 2017
On Wednesday, despite the awful, stormy weather, the children took part in an ‘indoor’ sports day and were amazing. They showed off their running, jumping and balancing skills in a variety of races.
Afterwards, they took part in their sponsored dance-a-thon.
We had a lovely, fun time. A big thankyou to all the parents who have supported us today.
KS2 Mini Olympics – Tuesday 20th June 2017
All of KS2 enjoyed taking part in lots of different activities at the Riverside in Chester-le-street on Tuesday.
Durham Dash – Wednesday 14th June 2017
On Wednesday, our pupils did very well at the Durham Dash:
- Miranna in Y4 came 2nd in her race
- Dominic in Y4 came 3rd in his race
- Evie in Y3 came 1st in her heat, and 3rd in the final
- Verity in Y6 came joint 3rd
- Jayden in Y3 came 3rd
- Aiden in Y5 came 2nd
- Lucy in Y5 came 4th and 5th
- Kevin in Y6 came 4th
Girls’ Football Matches – Friday 26th May 2017
Some girls from Year 5 and 6 went to Maiden Castle to play football today. They won two matches and lost two matches. They were a fantastic team and it was a great day for everyone there.
Song for Europe Competition – Tuesday 23rd May 2017
On Tuesday, 23rd of May, a group of 12 pupils from Year 4 went to the Gala Theatre in Durham to take part in the 2017 Song for Europe competition for Primary Schools. The children had practised hard in the weeks before the event, and gave a highly polished performance of the German song “Singt mit uns” (Sing with us).
The pupils, accompanied by Mrs Raine and Mrs Crank-Field, enjoyed a variety of songs in French, Spanish, German, Welsh, Polish, Swedish and even Gaelic! All 30 schools put on a fabulous show, and were also entertained by Nat Lunatricks, the host who rode his unicycle, juggled, span plates and provided a humorous commentary to the proceedings.
A brilliant experience for all involved! The whole Year 4 class will perform the song again for the Showcase Assembly on July 18th.
Making a den! – Tuesday 23rd May 2017

Mini Tennis Tournament – Friday 12th May 2017
On Friday, Year 3 attended Framwellgate School Durham to take part in a tennis tournament and skills class. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed it.
Buddha Assembly – Friday 5th May 2017
David from the Oriental Museum did an assembly all about the story of Buddha’s birth, as his birthday is celebrated in May. Three of the children helped him to act out the story!
Oliver Twist – Thursday 4th May 2017
M&M Productions came into school to deliver a great performance of Oliver Twist. The children all enjoyed it and some even got involved!
Soup Workshop – Thursday 27th April 2017
Taylor Shaw came into school today to make soup with the children, and taught them how to make bread. The children all enjoyed both making and eating it!
Boiled Egg Competition – Friday 7th April 2017
Reception Class Assembly – Tuesday 4th April 2017
Today our children performed two French songs that they have been learning with Madame Raine, as well as two stories, one of which was The Gingerbread Man and the other The Three Billy Goats Gruff. A few children also read out their animal descriptions, whilst others talked about their paintings.
Year 3 Oriental Museum Trip – Monday 3rd April 2017
Children in Year 3 enjoyed handling 3000-year-old artefacts at the Oriental Museum and were excited to see a genuine, preserved Egyptian Mummy!
Year 6 Safety Carousel – Friday 31st March
The year 6 pupils enjoyed learning about all aspects of safety. On the trip, the children understood the importance of internet safety, they were taught First Aid and CPR by lifeguards, and they spotted the dangers in different road situations. Everyone got quite a fright when the electric jumped!
Red Nose Day Competition – Friday 24th March 2017

The Year 5/6 Girls Football Team finished 2nd in their group at their recent football tournament. This means that the team has qualified for the County Cup Finals.

Robin Wood – Monday 13th March – Wednesday 15th March
March 13th – 15th saw 29 intrepid explorers travel to the Robin Wood Outdoor Activity Centre in Alston. Here they took part in activities such as Giant Swing, Piranha Pool and Trapeze, a great time was had by all!
Road Safety Day – Friday 17th February 2017
All children started their morning discussing road safety in a whole school assembly. During the rest of the day children in Years 3 and 4 took part in scooter training and learned about riding their scooters safely. Year 5 and 6 took had their bikes safety checked and then had the chance to cycle around the infant yard. All children thoroughly enjoyed the day!
Spruce Up Framwellgate Moor – Poster Competition Winners
As part of ‘Operation Spruce Up’ children at Framwellgate Moor Primary School designed posters aimed at encouraging local residents to help clean up Framwellgate Moor. Meave Walsh (Year 5) and Heidi Collier (Year 4) won the poster competition and have had their posters printed and put up around the community.

French Partner Primary School – Tuesday 7th February 2017
The link with our partner school continues to go from strength to strength! We have been in contact with Madame Bourguignon and her class in Hangest sur Somme for over a year now.
The current Year 5 class have recorded and sent a DVD featuring the pupils introducing themselves, and singing an alphabet song in French. They also made individual Christmas cards for their French friends.
In return we have received a DVD featuring the French pupils introducing themselves, and singing Christmas songs. The last thing to arrive was a package with handmade New Year cards which you can see in the pictures here.
eCadet Assemblies – Friday 27th January 2017
Today our eCadets presented class assemblies. Children then completed ‘Digital Footprint’ activities and enjoyed discussing ideas about staying safe whilst online.
Growing Healthy Bus – Monday 16th January – Friday 20th January 2017
Children from all year groups enjoyed visiting the Growing Healthy Bus this week in school. They learned about keeping healthy and took part in activities which included learning about hand washing and brushing your teeth properly! All of the children enjoyed the activities they took part in.
Community Centre Christmas Party – 2nd December 2016
the WI prepared a fantastic Christmas lunch for the residents in the local area. Year 6 pupils from Framwellgate Moor Primary School entertained the community at the end of their meal. The children wore Christmas outfits and sang with energy and enthusiasm. Everyone joined in to sing a variety of traditional carols along with modern songs.
On Thursday 17th November, Framwellgate Moor Primary School Gymnastics Club performed at Deerness Gymnastics Academy in Durham. Rachel Davies taught the keen Key Stage 2 children a fabulous routine. The children demonstrated great flexibility and agility and performed tricks such as cartwheels, round offs, bridges and shoulder stands. The routine was performed to ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ by Coldplay. The children were enthusiastic and polished and I was very proud to accompany the children and watch them represent Framwellgate Moor Primary School.

Nursery Owl Visit
This week the children have been reading ‘The Owl Babies’ in Nursery. Some owls came to visit and the children were very excited. They learned lots about owls and watched them fly.
Wharton Park Royal Visit – October 7th 2016
20 children from year 2 and year 3 visited Wharton Park for the Official Royal Opening. The children waved union jack flags as The Juke of Kent arrived. They also got the chance to try out the play equipment and join in with some fun games. Both the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed their morning!
Roald Dahl’s Centenary – September 13th 2016
Children enjoyed dressing up in Roald Dahl’s favourite colour (yellow!) as well as various different characters from their favourite Roald Dahl books. Children also enjoyed reading some of Roald Dahl’s books and taking part in different activities throughout the day!
Hamsterly Forest Year 4 – 25th May 2016
Year 4 visited Hamsterly Forest to conduct a river study. Throughout the day we looked at mini beasts in the river, features of a river and Jill the leader of our class who works at Hamsterly Forest, taught the children how to conduct their own river study. It was a fantastic fun day, the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed it.
On Tuesday 9th February children from year 3 and 4 took part in a key steps gymnastics competition at The Louisa Centre in Stanley. We had a great morning showing off the hard work we had put in to learning our routines and one team even came away with bronze medals! The children worked really hard and represented the school impeccably. Well done!
Durham County Cricket Project – Thursday 3rd December 2015
Miss Wilkinson’s English Set have been taking part in a project with Durham County Cricket Club. Mr Ross from the club visited school over the course or 2 weeks and then on 3rd December we visited the ground and recorded our pre-prepared commentaries over a clip from the match between the Durham Jets and the North Yorkshire Vikings. We had great fun!
Tag Rugby Festival – Monday 30th November 2015
On Monday 30th November a squad of 9 year 5 and 6 children took part in a tag rugby festival at maiden castle in Durham. We performed really well, winning five games and drawing one game in the group stages. Unfortunately we lost in the final but what a great team performance! Well done boys and girls!
Year 6 Girls Football Team – Wednesday 4th November 2015
On Wednesday 4th November our first ever Framwellgate Moor Primary School Year 6 girls football team took part in a tournament at Deerness. They worked extremely hard, had a great time and gained experience of the game! Well done girls you did the school proud!
‘Get caught reading’ Campaign – October 22nd 2015
Framwellgate Moor Primary school took part in a ‘ Get Caught Reading’ Campaign for reading week to show people its still fun to read! We asked all the children to bring in a photo from home of them reading in unusual places. All of the photos are amazing, Thank you for taking the time to take part in this campaign!
Computer Challenge – Thursday 15th/22nd of October 2015
On the 15th and 22nds of October, Framwellgate Moor Primary School, St Godric’s, Finchale and Bluecoat got together to take part in their third ‘Computing Challenge’. They had to work in teams to complete a programme to build a vehicle with working attachments that would also be capable of throwing a ball. Once again, each team worked brilliantly together and succeeded in their challenge!
Football League – Thursday 22nd October 2015
After four weeks of league matches we are really proud of our year 6 boys who finished first with 8 wins out of 8! What an amazing set of players who fully deserved this fabulous trophy! Looking forward to February when we will be in the premier league. Well done boys!
Visit from ‘The Owl Man’ – Wednesday 21st October 2015
Mr Laidler, ‘The Owl Man’, came to visit school this morning with his Barn Owl, Tiny Owl and Eagle Owl. The whole school enjoyed learning about the owls and having them swoop overhead was a great highlight. Thank you Mr Laidler!
Safety Talk for Year 5 and Year 6 – Wednesday 21st October 2015
Sarah and Callum from Esh Group came to visit us to explain what is happening with the developments at Wharton Park and how to be safe around a building site. Kadie was chosen to wear some of the safety items. Doesn’t she look good?
Dorothy’s Well Charity Assembly – Friday 9th October 2015
Jim O’Connor came in this morning to speak to the children about his Charity ‘Dorothy’s Well’. Jim first visited Tanzania in 2008 and it was then he realised he wanted to help the lives of young and vulnerable people who live there. In 2009, Jim returned to Tanzania with a huge £20000, which had been donated by local people. What was meant to be a one off project has resulted in eight wells and four twelve bay latrines being provided up to March 2014. Last term, our Year 5 class held an enterprise day, where they raised money by having different stalls for Jim’s charity. The children raised £300.00! This money will help go towards Jim’s plans to bring electricity to the schools in Tanzania.

Harvest Festival – Friday 6th October 2015
Dwayne Pipe Show – Friday 2nd October
Northumbria Water visited school today and entertained the children through a show with a serious message. ‘Dwayne Pipe’ taught the children some useful facts about what not to flush down the toilet! Dirty nappies and cotton buds are a definite no no! The children participated wholeheartedly in the performance and we learnt a lot!
Year 6 Football Team – Wednesday 24th September 2015

KS2 Mini Olympics – Wednesday 24th June 2015
On Wednesday 24th June, Year 2 visited Durham Sixth Form Centre to take part in a ‘Mini Olympics’ event. The children had a great time taking part in activities such as basketball, tag rugby, skipping, multiskills and soccertots.
