1st July 2022 By emilychester

Lots going on again this week.

Year 4 had a Geography field trip to Seaham to study the physical features of this part of the coastline, focusing particularly on coastal erosion and the way it is managed.  They all had a great day.  You can view pictures of this in the Year 4 Gallery.

Wild Science visited the Nursery, Reception and KS1 classes to teach children about different living creatures.  The children had a lovely time meeting and learning about the bunny, python, hamster, African land snail and unusual insects that visited the school on that day.

Next Friday, 8th July, we hope to hold our sports day if the weather is fine.

We have had a couple of sports trips: Year 4 had a morning of learning cricket skills at the SSP Cricket Festival at Maiden Castle and Years 3 and 5 participated in the SSP Zambia Fun Run.

Next week we are looking forward to the Year 4 trip to Seaham.

Once again there has been a lot happening in the school this week.

On Monday and Tuesday this week Years 1-6 had the opportunity to attend Flat Stanley First Aid Workshops.  Pictures of this can be viewed on the Enrichment and Enjoyment page of the website.

On Tuesday Year 4 continued their Jubilee celebrations by visiting the Gala theatre to watch the show “A Right Royal Do!”  Pictures of this can be viewed in the Year 4 Gallery.

Yesterday Year 3 had a trip to view the monuments of the North East.  The trip was enjoyed by everyone, and we hope to share photos with you all soon.

As well as this the school netball team had a great first match in the local netball league, and we are looking forward to next week’s event.

Next week is the Beamish Trip for Year 1, and the Zambia Fun Run for Year 3 and Year 5.

Another busy week for the school!

On Monday the Year 3s had a trip to Hamsterley Forest, where they enjoyed a variety of activities from making environmental art to geography activities exploring the river. Pictures of this can be viewed in the Year 3 Gallery.

On Tuesday the children enjoyed a Jubilee buffet.

Wednesday saw our Jubilee Celebration, which parents were invited to attend. The children performed a song and a dance from every decade the Queen has been on the throne. I would like to congratulate the children on their brilliant performances which were enjoyed by everyone. Pictures and videos of this celebration will be available to view on our website shortly.

Yesterday we had a colour run and the children thought that it was absolutely amazing! We will be uploading pictures and videos from this shortly.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and restful half term, and look forward to welcoming everyone back on June 6th.

Concert Congratulations

26th May 2022 By emilychester

I would like to share this email we received regarding yesterday’s Jubilee Celebration Concert:

“Dear Mrs Smith and School

You gave a joyous, engaging and truly memorable Concert today, to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  All your families and friends saw a wonderful show.  You really did shine today,  as classes.  To each child Thank You for doing your best.  It was a fabulous Concert.  Thank you to all the staff , led by Mrs Smith, for holding it all together.  The audience loved the Show and the songs they remember at your age!  Your dance moves  were spot on.
Congratulations for marking the Queen’s  Jubilee Celebrations with this afternoon’s tribute to songs and dances over 70 years of her reign that happily took us all back to our childhoods.  You did very well.  Credit to each one of you and to any people who were missing today but had practised hard in school.”

Another busy week in the school!

Year 2 are currently midway through their SATS.

This week we had artist in residence, Rhonda Fenwick, visit Year 5.  Rhonda worked with the class to produce flags celebrating the jubilee using a variety of fabric techniques.  These flags will be made into bunting and we can’t wait to share the finished piece with you all.

The Eco Warriors had another meeting this week.  They then presented their ideas to the school as part of our Eco Assembly on Thursday.  Pictures of this can be viewed on our Shiny People page.

Year 1 had an exciting morning on Wednesday: they visited Durham Johnston School for an Outdoor Adventurous Activities session.  We hope to share pictures of this with you all soon.

Year 4 boys took part in a football tournament yesterday, in which they did well working as a team.

We are looking forward to another busy week next week, with the Jubilee Celebrations on Wednesday.
