Turtles Maths Cafe

Turtles had a lovely morning with some of our families, using our mathematical thinking to solve problems, including the extra tough challenge! The problems encouraged children to use lots of skills such as working  systematically, conjecturing and generalising, trial and improvement as well as visualising.

mATHS CLASS

In Maths today, we made 3D shapes using sticks and plasticine. This was to help us to describe a 3D shapes properties using mathematical vocabualry such as faces, edges and vertices'. We then used these models to support our learning for the next activities.'

y6 Six ten problem

Year 6 tackled the six ten problem, where 6 dice are facing up of one number and 10 of another. The difference between the two different numbers had to be 2. The children tried different numbers to see if they could find a pattern, which they did spotting that all the totals were multiples of 4 and that this meant the difference between the two numbers being multiplied by 4.

Y6 Problem Solving

Year 6 tackled a problem using trial and improvement. The class were given a set of numbers and put them into a circle. The numbers next to each other had to add upto a square number. After a number of attempts many groups managed to complete the circle.

Y5 Maths Day Challenge 19th April

Today we took part in a maths challenge afternoon. We split up into small groups and had to attempt to complete 6 maths challenges. We had to use our times tables, shape, money, factors, prime numbers and team building skills to complete them all.

We had lots of fun outside doing this.

Maths Day Challenge

All Year 3’s and 4’s took part in a Maths Problem Solving Day in school this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed completing the challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Working together as a team, they were able to use and apply their Mathematical skills to solve a range of problems. We also had lots of fun along the way too!!

Nursery Maths 17.4.23

This week in Nursery we read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We measured some pretend beanstalks using the big building blocks outside. First we ordered them from tallest to shortest and then we measured how many blocks tall each one was. In the malleable area, we made beanstalks with green playdough onto playdough mats. We counted the number of ladybirds on each leaf and found the matching numeral and numicon piece. Then we counted the number of beans into the numicon circles.

Year 6 took part in our Maths Challenge Day, where the children had to work as part of a team to solve problems and create strategies in order to win certain activities. The activities required different mathematical skills from factors and multiples, shape, money and working as a team to build a pyramid. Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed the challenges.

A.I.M Maths Day

Some of our Year 6 children were lucky enough to attend an A.I.M High Maths Day at Esh Winning Primary School. The children were tasked with solving a series of different maths problems and games; spotting patterns, sequences and using their arithmetic skills. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day and a big thank you to Esh Winning Primary school for hosting the event.
