KS1 & KS2 Team Building day with Y6 Sports Leaders
Today KS1 and KS2 took part in a team building day with their classes. A fantastic day organised by Darren from SSP with the help from some of our Year 6 sports leaders! We had a go at various different games which involved lots of team work and communication. The Year 6 pupils were fantastic helpers and had really clear instructions so we understood what to do. Well done everyone!

Centre for Life trip
On Wednesday 3rd May, Year 1 and Year 2 visited the Center For Life to consolidate our learning in Geography. We completed a workshop about the continents and oceans, visited the Science Theatre, Planetarium and had time to explore the life centre and its different zones. We can’t wait to write up our recounts and share them with you.
Year 1 Disney Sports Festival
This morning all year 1 pupils went to Framwellgate Moor School and took part in a Disney themed Sports Festival!
All children took part in a range of Disney-themed activities! They all had so much fun!!
We even got to meet Beauty and the Beast!
Visit from Author Adam Bushnell
We had the pleasure of a visit from Adam Bushnell in school this week. Adam is an author of books for children and adults, he has written over fifty books and visits schools to teach writing skills to children. He has been visiting our school for around 16 years.
The year 1 and 2 children had lots of fun participating in a workshop. We spent lots of time describing animals and even wrote our own animal reports! After a job well done we were lucky enough to meet Adam’s pet tortoise Jet.
Maths Day Challenge
We have loved taking part in maths challenge day today. We rotated round the activities which involved multiplication and division, shapes, measuring distance, doubling and halving and problem solving! We absolutely loved working together and challenging each other.
Year 2 have enjoyed learning about position and direction and have been giving their partner instructions to get to the treasure using clockwise and anti clockwise turns.
Intra Sports Day
Today, year 1 took part in a whole school Intra Sports day and they focused on their throwing skills. Children had a lot of fun and were throwing brilliantly!
Year 1 & 2 History
Our key question this half term has been Have Trains and Planes Shrank Our World? To round up our topic we had a debate on our opinion on the question.
Some of us thought they had because our world feels smaller since we can get to places much quicker but some of us thought our world actually feels bigger because there is so much of it to discover!

Year 1 & 2 Computing
This term we have been creating videos on IMovie where we have included lots of skills like adding backgrounds, adding text, transitions, voice over and more. We have loved making these and look forward to sharing our videos with Reception to show them all about what life is like in Year 1 and 2.
Year 1 & 2 Invasion Games at New College
Last week year 1’s went on their invasion games sports festival at New College. We powered through the snow on the morning and lots of fun!!Today, Year 2 went on their rescheduled invasion games sports festival. They also had so much fun!
Both year groups represented our school amazingly! We’re so proud of you!

This half term we are working on our textiles skills, today we have thread the needle, tied a knot and completed a running stitch. It took a lot of resilience but we got there in the end!
World Book Day 2023
What a fantastic day we had in Year 1 & 2 dressed up as our favourite characters/authors from our favourite stories. We took part in Madame Dragon’s Training School workshop to become dragons, read with Year 6 and Nursery children, designed new front covers for our books and spent lots of time just discussing the wonderful books around us.

Science Experiment
Last week the green class penguins began a science experiment to look at which materials are best at protecting an egg. Children were given a random material and they had to make the best container to protect the egg. Here are their creations!
Next week we are going to test which container is best!!

KS1 – Festive Fun Run
Seals Class
Seals Class have been thinking about their ambitions. We dressed up as our ambition and talked about the steps we need to take in order to achieve them! We know we need to be resilient, hard working, patient and lots more to achieve our goals.

This week we have enjoyed making and tasting our healthy wraps, identifying fossils and creating Venn diagrams in computing!

DT – tasting different food combinations, the children loved this activity! Some even tried some new foods!
English – independent designing their own superheroes!
History – on Monday, we went on a history walk around our local area. We spotted all the special place that we’ve focused on and spoke about how buildings have changed over time.
Zumba – on Tuesday, the year 2’s took part in a Zumba class with Gemma Smith from the SSP. The children had so much fun and definitely worked up a sweat!!
Seals Class
This week we learnt about Christingles and the importance of them within Christianity. We learnt about each part of the Christingle and what it represents and then had a go at making our own. We also thought about what else we might add to our Christingles.
Seals Class
Seals class have loved testing how much sugar is really in drinks! We were very shocked at some of the results.
Key Stage 1 Trip to Seven Stories
Seals- Show and Tell
Seals Class all brought in drawings of what they want be when they grow up- what big ambitions we have! We had lots of children wanting be vets because they love and care for animals. There were hairdressers, fashion designers, policemen, paramedics, firefighters, ballet dancers, gymnasts and lots more! It was lovely to share our hopes with each other.
FMPS Book Festival
Seals Class enjoyed bringing in their own piece of text/ book on Friday and sharing this with the class. We talked about why we liked these stories and recommended these to our friends. Some of us read extracts of our books to each other too.
Sports Leaders with Year 6 and Seals Class
On Monday afternoon the Year 6s came to help Seals in their P.E lesson with what they had learnt as Sports Leaders. We loved working with Year 6!
Art
In Art this week we were exploring facial expressions and emotions and attempting to replicate this with marks. We made different expressions with our friends and observed how our face/ features changed.
We then tried this with different posture too, we used Quentin Blake, the illustrator, as a basis for our work.
Seals Geography
Seals Class really enjoyed walking to our local shop today. We followed a planned route and spotted the human and physical features along the way. Well done, Seals!

Penguins Class really enjoyed walking to our local shop yesterday following our safest route that we had planned previously in Geography.
The children were amazing and I was very proud of them! Well done Penguins!

Seals Class have really enjoyed their Art and Design topic this half term of drawing. We have learnt some mark making terms and applied these in our sketches. We used a range of objects to touch and and feel and describe the textures then we attempted to add the texture to our drawings.

Penguins Art Class
In Penguins class this week we have been exploring different textures by making marks using charcoal. Our class had so much fun having the chance to use charcoal this afternoon!
