Our Curriculum

Curriculum

Rationale

At FMPS our school motto is ‘Forever Making Pupils Shine’.  We aim to inspire pupils and instil a love of learning that will last a lifetime.  Children will develop skills and knowledge to support them in all areas of their life and build upon these solid foundations and maximise their potential.

So what do we want for our Learners?

The curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first-hand relevant learning experiences, allow the children to develop a wide range of learning skills and depth of knowledge, build confidence, independence, resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of skills, knowledge, concepts and values with a vision for all to ‘Let pupils shine’. We constantly provide enrichment opportunities to engage learning. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is an enthusiasm for new experiences and knowledge.  We use our school core values (kindness, celebration, courage, believe in ourselves) to promote positive attitudes to learning together, encouraging all to be respectful of themselves and others as well as being active citizens both locally and globally.

We are very proud of the broad and balanced curriculum we offer in our school. Please select “Curriculum Content” from the Curriculum tab above and click on the subject buttons to find out about what happens across the school in each subject area.

Special Educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

Framwellgate Moor Primary School, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEND Information Report on this website.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.

How we will ensure pupils learn the knowledge that we have identified

Children are expected to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, select arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Each lesson and unit builds upon prior learning and fundamentally strengthens their knowledge and understanding. All pupils enjoy a wide range of engaging and carefully selected learning experiences and activities designed to engage and enthuse. Clear and meaningful feedback provided by teachers is driven by the desire to eliminate misconception and to further embed, deepen and challenge knowledge and understanding.  Staff attend training, observe lessons and plan thoroughly to ensure expert subject knowledge.

Impact

Assessment for learning plays a critical role in identifying knowledge taught. Knowing more, remembering more and being able to do more are indicators of progress. Learning should build towards an end point and children should be prepared for their next stage of learning. Through assessment for learning, staff target misconceptions and gaps in learning by carefully adapting planning to ensure all children are meeting year group expectations.
