Koala’s Christmas Party 18.12.2019
What a lovely day we have had! We had a special visit from Santa who gave us all a kind gift. Then we had lots of party games, pass the parcel, musical statues and Christmas corners. We even had a tasty ice lolly to cool us down! We love Christmas time in Year 1.
Nursery Christmas Party 18.12.2019
The children in nursery had lots of fun at their Christmas party today. They enjoyed playing games, eating party food and receiving their present from Santa.
Year 4 – Making Bread and Soup for Santa 16.12.2019
Year 4 had a magical time at the secondary school this morning making bread and soup for Santa and decorating Christmas biscuits.

Year 4 – Teeth
The children in Year 4 made plasticine teeth based on their own teeth! This is part of their science module – teeth and digestion. There are some fantastic teeth made, dentists wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between these and real ones!
Koala’s – Year 1 – New College…..06.12.2019
On Friday 6th and Friday 13th December we visited New College Sports department to take part in a variety of sporting activities! We had lots of fun and enjoyed the new games that the sports students taught us!
Year 1 – Literacy Outdoors…..03.12.2019
We continuously access all available spaces within the Y1 classrooms to extend our learning. Here we are having fun recalling a story and using adjectives to describe the characters. We were also thinking about connectives to aid in making our sentences even better.
Year 1 – Dough Disco…..29.11.2019
Every Friday we partake in dough disco, this is a fun activity to wake our bodies and hands up ready for the day ahead.
Reception – Honeybees…..26.11.2019
As part of our Erasmus project, the Honey Bees have been learning about recycling and sorted the rubbish into different sets, plastic, paper/card and metal. We then decided to make some junk animals. Lucas wanted his group to make a dragon and the other group made a giraffe!

Honeybees – Reception…..26.11.2019
Our Honeybees have been investigating light and dark. After reading the story ‘Can’t you Sleep, Little Bear’ the children have enjoyed exploring shadows in the black out tent and learning about nocturnal animals.
Year 6 – Computing…..22.11.2019
This week year 6 have continued to develop their understanding of how computer technology works and how computers process instructions and commands. They have used sequence, repetition, variables and conditional selection confidently and creatively to program a racing car.

Kangaroo’s – Year 1 – Pudsey Bear Visit…..15.11.2019
This week Kangaroo Class have been comparing what they looked liked as a baby to how they look now. We all brought in our baby photos and tried to guess who each other was, looking closely at similarities and differences! We then looked at toys from the past and had a go at playing with these, the children recognised a few but they were very different to the kids of toys they have now. We thought about why this might be and explored the changes over time.
We also enjoyed saying hello to Pudsey Bear who visited our class and we talked about the importance of Children In Need. The children loved coming to school in their pyjamas and we even did some baking on Friday afternoon- our very own Pudsey biscuits!

Year 2 – Chasing Rainbows – A day full of Surprises! 12.11.2019
In English today, children identified their favourite lines and phrases in a poem entitled ‘Full of Surprises’ by Paul Cookson. Many of the children loved the line about ‘rainbows beaming’ and so it was an exciting surprise to see a beautiful rainbow in the sky when they went out for afternoon break. The children raced across the field to try and find the end of it just before it disappeared. On their return to class, they enjoyed learning about how rainbows are formed.
Ladybirds – Reception – Remembrance Day
To help us commemorate Remembrance Day, the Ladybird class made poppy biscuits. The children enjoyed making and decorating the biscuits, their favourite part was definitely the tasting!
Year 6 – World War 1…..08.11.2019
This week Year 6 have enjoyed presenting their World War One research projects during English lessons. The children have gained confidence when presenting to others and developed their speaking and listening skills.
Kangaroo’s – Year 1 – Bonfire Night Poetry…..06.11.2019
In English this week we have been looking at a poem called ‘November night countdown’ and spotting the rhyming words in it.
We got into groups to act out each stanza of the poem and performed these to the rest of class. A great first week back!
Year 5 – Geography…..06.11.2019
Year 5 have started their new Geography topic, ‘What shapes our world?’. We have been learning about the different types of land forms and the different things that can create them.
Year 6 – French Day…..25.10.2019
Year 6 pupils enjoyed a special French Day on Friday 25th of October based on a topic called “Notre monde” (Our world).
Pupils used a flag labelling /colouring activity to learn the French names for countries and capital cities. Next various games were played to practice the continents and major world rivers, and then we moved on to describing the weather using the simple future tense. We tried our hands at being Language Detectives, and then finally learnt about different landscapes.
In the afternoon, all pupils became explorers and produced descriptions of the journey along their newly discovered rivers.
Cricket Skills…..25.10.2019
The children had a lovely morning developing their cricket skills.
Kangaroo’s – Year 1…..Monkey and Me 25.10.2019
This week, we have enjoyed a range of exciting activities. We enjoyed bringing our own cuddly toys into school and were able to make our own repeated phrasing, inspired by the story ‘Monkey and Me’. In science, we have been learning about the transition from summer to autumn. We sketched our own autumnal pictures and completed word searches, as well as the focus task in our books! A great end to our first term in Year 1!
Year 4 – European Artists 25.10.2019
Year 4 have been studying different European Artists in class and have also been learning about Pencil Portraits.
Year 6 – Girls Football Champions
Well done to our Year 6 girls who won the 7 a side ESFA tournament. The girls played brilliantly with only 6 players on their team – winning the tournament! Great game girls!

Year 5 were set a challenge by NASA to create the best parachute they could to land next to a meteorite that was found on Earth! They have been using their enquiry skills to find out which material would be best for the job!

Year 5 have been working really hard in history! We have been looking at primary and secondary sources that tell us information about the Vikings.
Kangaroo’s, Year 1 – Playground Design….15/10/2019
On Tuesday afternoon, Kangaroo class began to design our own playgrounds! First, we had to think about what we already have in our own playground and what else we would like to have. We came up with ideas like; a water slide, swings, swimming pool and more. Then, we went outside and measured the distance inbetween certain features, we did this by counting our strides. The children then sketched their own design of a playground!
Kangaroo’s, Year 1 – Food Tasting…..11/10/2019
In science, Kangaroos have been learning about another one of our senses- taste! We had 6 different foods to try and the children had to guess what they thought it was. We talked about what our prediction was, what it tasted like, if it was similar to other foods and if we liked it or not.
Then, we revealed what it was!
Koala’s, Year 1 – Food Tasting…..11/10/2019
Our Koala class thoroughly enjoyed our tasting lesson as part of the 5 senses work in Science. The children wore blindfolds and had to guess what 6 different foods were! We tasted apples, custard, crisps, bread, yoghurt and cheese. I wonder if you would have guessed correctly?!

Year 2 had a great time at the Multi-Skills Festival at Framwellgate Moor School on Wednesday.
Year 2 – History Hunt…..10/10/2019
This week, Year 2 went on a history hunt around the local area to find out more about places that were built before they were born. They had to sketch each location, find evidence of when the building was completed and look out for signs of change over time.
Kangaroos – Year 1…..09/10/2019
Kangaroo class enjoyed their computing lesson week. We have been exploring algorithms and using the bee-bots to help us!
We gave the bee-bot our instructions and it was able to travel to us.
Year 3 – History…..08/10/2019
In history Year 3 have been learning about life in Britain during the Stone Age. This week we have been looking into Skara Brae and the pupils have had a great time researching about it. We found out lots of amazing facts!

Harvest Festival
On Tuesday 1st October we had our annual Harvest Festival Assembly and have been overwhelmed at the generosity of the families who have donated items for the Durham Food Bank. As you can see from the photographs, we have a lot of food to handover. Thank you!
Year 3 – Skeletons…..27/09/2019
Year 3 have had such fun this week with Miss Thompson learning about our human skeleton. Here the pupils have been creating their own skeletons to help learn what the bones are called and where they go on our body.
Kangaroos – Little Red Riding Hood…..27/09/2019
Kangaroo Class have settled in amazingly to Year 1 this autumn term. We have been learning about the story of Little Red Riding Hood and exploring the characters, settings and feelings through a range of activities including drama. We performed these on stage in the outdoor classroom!
In science we have been looking at our 5 senses, which linked to our geography topic of what we might find in our school grounds. This also linked to what Little Red Riding Hood might find as she walked through the forest! Therefore, we went outside to explore all of the things we can see, hear, touch and smell and recorded these on our clipboards.
Jet and Ben
On Monday 22nd September Jet and Ben and their handlers visited school and were part of our assembly. We learned about ‘Stranger Danger’ and how to stay safe as the nights become darker. Jet and Ben were very well behaved and they even let us all stroke them!

This term Year’s topic is all about Life in Stone Age Britain and in art this week we were looking into Stone Age cave drawings. We have had lots of fun creating these master pieces, here is a group of year 3’s working hard or their drawings.
