Year 5 visited Weardale Adventure Centre this week and took part in a number of activities in a vast quarry. The children had to be resilient, show teamwork and communication skills. On the water, the children climbed aboard ‘The Mammoth’ a huge paddleboard, where they had to paddle as one and help each other collect objects. Lots of the children got wet but all returned with smiles on their faces. The other activities were based on bushcraft and teamwork. Fire lighting and the importance of fire safety was covered, while the Year 5s attempted to light pieces of cotton wool, before being rewarded with marshmallows. After this, we took part in a number of team building games such as crossing a pool of lava on stepping stones and handing things over an imaginary river. The activities were excellent and they were thoroughly enjoyed by the children.
Year 6 took part in their final colour run at the school. As you can see from the before and after pictures all were covered in paint and enjoyed the run.
Year 5 loved the Quidditch Festival at Maiden Castle on Tuesday. We took part in a carousel of activities learning the skills of Quidditch (dodging, throwing, catching, team work, communication) and then played games.
The Y6 tag rugby team took part in the county finals this week after qualifying by winning the previous tournament. The team narrowly lost their first 3 games in the dying seconds. The team were able to win their final 2 games, one of them against the eventual semi finalists. The team finished 11th in the county overall. A big well done to the team!
SSP coaches returned to give the class the opportunity to show off their dodgeball skills. The children played in house teams with Green team winning in our year group. Even Mr Anderson took part!
SSP came in for children in year 1-6 to take part in Scatterball and dodgeball. Children have had lots of fun taking part in these sports.

Year 6 enjoyed their cricket taster session with Alex from Durham Cricket. The children were shown how to bowl the ball with a bounce, hit the ball with the bat and what happens if they ball is caught by a fielder. A great afternoon had by all.
We had a great morning with Y3 and Y4 girls and boys competing in the regional finals for cross county. Well done to our reginal finalists you were all a credit to our school!
Year 6 were able to take part in an archery session with Darren from SSP. They were taught the basics of archery and the safety aspects of it before firing at targets with many hitting the target!
Some children from Y2 to Y6 went to the Beacon of Light in Sunderland to take part in a Panathlon challenge and take part in a variety of sporting activities. All children who took part were extremely well behaved and represented our school excellently.
The Y5/6 Basketball team took part in a tournament held at Maiden Castle. The team won two games finishing third in their group. The team played excellently dominating possession in all their games.
Year 6 had a fantastic morning with Darren Curry from SSP. They learned the rules of basketball, how to pass and dribble the ball and find appropriate spaces. The children worked well as a team and enjoyed playing games against each other.
On Tuesday 26th September year 3 pupils participated in the Tri Golf Festival at Blue Coats Juniors organised by the School Sports Partnership.
Some of our year 6 children took part in sports leader training with Darren from the SSP, they delivered sessions to the younger children in the afternoon. A great day had by all!

Year 6 took part in their final sports day. In the morning, they all took part in skipping, relay, throwing and football events. The children cheered each other on and enjoyed the events!
As part of our health and well being day the children took part in a fit step class. The children worked as partners using the step to get active before creating their own routine.
We had so much fun taking part in our health and wellbeing day, we got to take part in a step fit class. We even made up some of our own moves to add to the routine.
Today KS1 and KS2 took part in a team building day with their classes. A fantastic day organised by Darren from SSP with the help from some of our Y6 sports leaders! We had a go at various different games which involved lots of team work and communication. The Year 6 pupils were fantastic helpers and had really clear instructions so we understood what to do. Well done everyone!
Thursday 18th May, we worked with Chris from Durham Sports Partnership and some of our own Y6 leaders.
We played team games to give us skills to be able to play some small competitive games of Endzone.
Tigers really enjoyed working together to play these games.
After completing their SATs, Y6 took part in a quidditch afternoon, which began with some drills to learn the game and the positions. Before the children had the chance to play in a mini tournament. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing a different sport with very different rules!

This morning all year 1 pupils went to Framwellgate Moor School and took part in a Disney themed Sports Festival!
All children took part in a range of Disney-themed activities! They all had so much fun!!
We even got to meet Beauty and the Beast!
Y6 took part in a dodgeball session following on from their previous session. The children played different mini games before ending with a game of dodgeball.
Today, year 1 took part in a whole school intra sports day and they focused on their throwing skills. Children had a lot of fun and were throwing brilliantly!
Today in Butterflies we had a visitor who who taught us some Yoga. They told a story of an adventure through the jungle. We used yoga to help to tell the story. We had to have good balance, strength and concentration. It was lots of fun too.
We were lucky enough to be able to take part in a judo taster session where the children played a number of mini games, before trying some judo rolls. Some of the children already attend judo classes with the visiting coach, some were able to share some tips with others.
Today we we had a visit from, Glynn Fidgeons judo school. Glynn gave us a taster session and showed us how fun judo can be.
Last week year 1’s went on their invasion games sports festival at New College. We powered through the snow on the morning and lots of fun!!Today, Year 2 went on their rescheduled invasion games sports festival. They also had so much fun!
Both year groups represented our school amazingly! We’re so proud of you!
Today the children enjoyed taking part in a dodge ball lesson with Darren from SSP.
He taught them valuable rules and how to conduct themselves within the game, all of their team points will be added together. We will have a colour house winning team in assembly after half term.
However all of the children had so much fun and that’s what really counts.
A fun morning was had by all!
Year 4 had an enjoyable afternoon today, Team Building and Problem Solving at New Durham College at a School Partnership Event.
Today we got to learn how to play boccia. We played team games to get use to the weights of the balls. We had to learn how to roll the ball at different speeds.
Year 6 took part in a Sports Leader training this week, where the children were trained to lead activities with younger children. On the morning, the children took part activities where they had to encourage each other and work as a team. In the afternoon, those children who showed brilliant teamwork and encouraged others were chosen to teach Y1/2 PE. The children led a carousel of activities showing the children how to complete them and keeping their scores. A big thank you to SSP for running the day!
This week Year 6 had their first athletics session, with a focus on short distance running. The children thoroughly enjoyed the final relay race and competing against Mr Blacklock. Excellent communication from the children ensured they were victorious!
Year 3 have been working hard learning disco dance and cheerleading moves! We have had lots of fun and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it!
Year 5 took part in a dodgeball session. They learnt all of the professional rules of dodgeball and even took part in a mini competition.
