Live Author Talk

Today, Tigers Class took part in a live author talk with Mel Taylor-Bessent, the author of Race to Adventure Island and The Christmas Carols books. She shared lots of interesting information about the writing process, explained why she loves to write and answered lots of our questions. Mel told us that we are already authors ourselves – we just need to use our imaginations!

Maame's Time to Shine.

Maame delighted us all during her Time to Shine this week when she read a poem about flowers to us. We loved the images she created and the confidence she demonstrated when answering our questions about her passion for poetry writing. Using the advice given to us by author Mel Taylor-Bassent in the live session yesterday, we acted as mini-editors for Maame and made some suggestions for her final draft. We look forward to reading your final version, which we will add to our class poetry book, Maame!

Lydia's time to shine

This week was Lydia's time to shine and she proudly presented all of her swimming certificates! Lydia talked to us all about her lessons and the time it has taken her to learn. She couldn't wait to share some tips and tricks with the rest of the class to help everyone with their swimming lessons!

Matthew's  Time to Shine

This week in Pandas for our 'Time to Shine' Matthew shared with us one of his favourite hobbies, rock climbing! Matthew attends his sessions at Durham Climbing Centre. Matthew explained what each different skill was that he has learnt and demonstrated how to do them including overhang, project climb and dyno! Elia's Time to Shine

In Pandas it was Elia's 'Time to Shine', Elia kindly shared with her friends some pictures and a video of her cheerleading lessons. All the children in Pandas had lot's of questions! We were so impressed with how brave and strong Elia is! Thank you for sharing one of your favourite hobbies with us!

William's Time to Shine

William provided us with the perfect opportunity to honour and pay tribute to those who selflessly served their countries, protecting our freedom and values this Remembrance Day. William told us all about the Remembrance Parade he took part in with the Scouts and explained why we observe this special memorial day. He also shared information about his great-grandad, who joined the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was a photographer and flew to countries such as Jordan to perform military reconnaissance. We loved seeing the photograph of the Spitfire he made out of a sixpence back at his base! Thank you so much for helping us to remember the bravery and courage of those who sacrificed so much for us, William.

ECO2 COP30 International Schools Conference

This year’s COP30 summit is currently taking place in Belém, Brazil with a key focus on “uniting for our forests.” Today, Tigers were part of a conference focusing on the importance of creating and protecting trees and forests around the world, and their role in helping combat climate change. Children had the opportunity to ask an expert panel questions, share their thoughts and feelings and hear an update on how the COP30 talks were progressing from a climate scientist attending the summit himself. 

Tyler's Time to Shine

 
Tyler's amazing Time to Shine about his summer holiday cruise around the Mediterranean made us all wish we could jump on board the Ariva! He told us some impressive facts about the cruise liner, the activities you could take part in whilst sailing and showed us photographs of the places he visited, including his favourite location, Barcelona. The highlight of his presentation was when he showed us his very smart outfit for formal dining night along with the treats left for him by room service. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us, Tyler!

sIENNA'S TIME TO SHINE

Sienna had her time to shine today and she showed us her new, amazing sticker stamper. We were all amazed at the cool stickers that it had!

DANCE  FESIVAL

Year 3/4 took part in a come dance with me festival to learn some new dance styles, they had so much fun!

Rosa presented some medals that she has won at a recent competition. Well done Rosa!

Ibrahim presented an amazingly animated presentation all about him telling his classmates more about him - what he enjoys and his pet Loki! Well done Ibrahim, great work!

lAYA's TIME TO SHINE

This week in Panda's for our 'Time to Shine', Laya shared with our class her passions including dancing and Jiu Jitsu. Laya shared photo's from her competitions and the other children had lot's of questions! Thank you, Laya! 🙂

Rose's Time to Shine in Tigers. 

 
Rose bloomed during her Time to Shine this week when she shared information with the class about her family, where she is from, and the things she enjoys doing outside of school. We found the favourite page of her book, The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks, highly amusing, and we loved her kickboxing demonstration! Rose was also kind enough to show us her geode and crystal collection. Thank you so much!

Tree-mendous Trees

In preparation for our ECO2 Cop30 Conference in November, we have been learning about trees and forests. Here we are identifying trees in our school grounds. Over the half term holiday, Tigers have been set the challenge of taking a photograph of themselves with their favourite tree ready to share with the class why it is special to them.

Year 4 sCIENCE

In Science, the children made an arm using card for the bones, split pins for the elbow and elastic band to represent triceps and biceps. This helped them learn that when one set of muscles contracts, the other relaxes.
 

iron man

The children used drama to explore the characters of the farmers from our class novel, Ted Hughes' Iron Man.

YEAR 4 jUMPING

Year 4 was conducting an investigation to find out if people with longer femurs jump further than people with shorter femurs.

This week in Panda's for our 'Time to shine', Rose shared her love for dancing and performing! Rose very kindly brought in some photographs where her class friends could see her dancing and singing on stage. We were also very lucky to see her sparkly dance trophies! Wow! Thank you Rose!

YEar 4 Netball

This term, some of our Year 4 pupils have had the exciting opportunity to learn and develop their skills in Bee Netball. They’ve been working hard to practise the techniques needed to play the game confidently. Today, those children were able to put their skills into action by taking part in a Netball Festival, where they proudly showcased what they’ve learned.

Ilana's Time to Shine

 
This week, we were lucky enough to learn all about Ilana's hobbies and interests during her 'Time to Shine'. Not only is Ilana an accomplished swimmer, dancer, cyclist and athlete, but she has also achieved her yellow belt in karate and kindly demonstrated the kata she knows. She even enjoys a spot of baking in her spare time! Ilana, you are clearly a girl of many talents.

FRANKIE'S TIME TO SHINE

In Pandas this week for our 'Time to shine', Frankie brought in photos of his lovely farm animals and told us their names. Frankie told us all about how he takes care of them and he even kindly brought Miss Robson some eggs! Miss Robson said they were delicious! Yum! Thank you Frankie.

Adrian's Time to shine

Adrian did a fantastic time to shine presentation on Tuesday where he showed the class his sketchbook. Adrien does an online art class once a week and enjoys drawing whenever he can. In his sketch book, he showed the children a range of artworks where he has used pencil, coloured pencil and oil pastels. He has even inspired many in the class to create their own artworks this week!

Orangutans have been exploring a range of different outside textures, and using a range of different media to make rubbings. Using these rubbings, children have then created a nature themed piece of art using their newly learned technique, frottage. 

Mia Time to Shine

Mia brought in her football trophies for her Time to Shine. She shared her successes and our class so proud of her!

Charlie's Time to shine

This week in Panda's for our 'Time to shine', Charlie brought his football team shirt in and some lovely photos. Charlie shared with the class what his favourite things were about playing football, and it was also lovely to see we had some of his teammates in our class! Thank you Charlie!

Year 4 Gymnastics Festival 

 
The Year 4 children had the opportunity to go to Durham City Gymnastics and try out a range of different activities which introduced them to different areas of Gymnastics. The children got to bounce along the fast track, try out different types of jumps on the trampoline, explore rolling techniques and even travel along the balance beam. It was a fun experience that allowed the children to practice their balancing, jumping, rolling and travelling skills.
 

AIDEN'S TIME TO SHINE

In Panda's this week our 'Time to Shine' pupil was Aiden. Aiden created a PowerPoint presentation at home all about fossils, he even made his own fossils to show and gift his class. Aiden discussed different kinds of fossils and shared images from his trip to a museum. The children thoroughly enjoyed identifying different types of fossils and Aiden's fossil quiz. yEAR 3 re

In our RE lessons, we are focusing on the religion 'Hinduism'. Siyona very kindly brought some items from her shrine at home to share with the class. Siyona discussed how she worships at home with her family and explained the importance of each item. Thank you, Siyona!

tri-golf festival

Year 3 went to a Tri-Golf festival on Thursday and spent the morning practising their golf skills by playing a range games. Every child had the opportunity to take part in each activity and represented our school excellently!

tigers big debate!

Our young debaters in Tigers Class went head-to-head in a lively discussion about the best city in the North East – Durham vs Sunderland. We were thoroughly impressed by their persuasive arguments, backed by the facts and evidence they gathered during their fact-finding mission homework. It was a brilliant showcase of research, critical thinking and public speaking!

TIGERS GEOGRAPGY

Tigers Class put their geography skills to the test with a fun 'mapping from memory' challenge! Using teamwork and sharp recall, they recreated maps of the UK’s physical features, including mountains, hills and rivers. It was a fantastic way to learn about our landscape while building memory and collaboration skills!

Luke's Time to Shine

Luke impressed us all during his Time to Shine, proudly sharing his Park Run and Mini Mudder successes with Tigers Class. When asked about his next sporting goal, he explained that he would love to complete a mini marathon. We have no doubt, Luke, that you will make this ambition a reality. Thank you for inspiring us all with your fantastic achievements!

Magical Autumn Apples

This week, we have been inspired by the autumn equinox and the wonderful signs of the season all around us. During our trip to the school garden, we foraged some apples and discussed the seasonal treasures that nature provides. Back in class, Mrs Chadwick shared the enchanting tale of how the apple got its beautiful star. The children were captivated, and we were all reminded that nature truly is magical!
 

Time To Shine - Orangutans

On Tuesday, Arish was our first Orangutan and he presented and spoke about somebody really special to him, his baby brother. He showed the class a very smart photo and even shared a fact file that he'd created all about him.
